Etro’s frequent use of the paisley has made it an iconic image in the brand’s style.

The design of the paisley, a droplet-shaped motif of Persian origin, has been seen in antique shawls and cashmeres ranging from eighteenth century India, France and England, as well as vast historical archives, exotic textiles and Italian prints.

Jacopo Etro, Creative Director of Etro reveals that the brand was established as a textiles company in 1968. His father, Gimmo Etro, would travel the world absorbing various arts and cultures. However the passion for fabric dates back to the 40’s, when his grandfather owned a textile company as well.

Although the paisley is an historic design, the artistry now revolves around a more contemporary and creative approach. Etro continues to explore and experiment with paisley, infusing it with pop hues, fossilised in lunar prints, fine embroideries, crystals and other elements, while sustaining the heritage of this timeless pattern.
